Beyond The Wall of Sleep

Welcome to "The Horror Show". In these posts I will be reviewing classic and new horror films. In this initial entry I will be taking a look at "Beyond The Wall of Sleep."
Based very loosely on the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name, this newer release is both ludicrous and entertaining. Do expect to be frightened or thrilled by this film, the joy comes from the film's total ineptness. The director's of BTWOS make Ed Wood look like Cecil B. DeMille. These guys couldn't direct a rabbit out of a hat.
Not only does the filmmaking resemble a film school reject's worst effort, the acting is as wooden as any atrocious high school play. Even the usually reliable William Sanderson is pitiful.
But with the wooden lines he has to say in this film it's a wonder he's not even worse.
Overall, this movie is a total waste of time unless, like me, you're a big fan of cheese. I laughed harder during this movie than I have at anything from Mike Myers. Horrible directing, poor special effects, sub-subpar acting, on a scale of 1 -5 corpses, this rates a zero. But for sheer cheese give it a look and keep a lookout for the few minutes Tom Savini appears in the film, Tom is the one highpoint and, as always, watchable and enjoyable.
